In this episode, Nicky and Pippa are joined by speaker, author and activist Christine Caine.
Nicky and Pippa begin by asking Christine to share about her story. Christine’s early life in particular is riddled with pain and tragedy. With bravery and honesty, she shares with Nicky and Pippa the abuse she suffered at a young age and the leaked secret of her adoption. From the start of the interview, it is obvious that Christine did not become the global difference maker that she is by being dealt the right hand of cards; rather it was the fruit of difficult decisions to overcome profound adversity and to find healing, hope and purpose in Jesus.
Christine goes on to share how she came to know Jesus personally at the intersection of a variety of different church streams and influences. It’s beautiful to see how the whole Church was used by God to get a hold of Christine’s heart. After saying “yes” to life with Jesus, Christine’s following years can be characterized by one word – obscurity. She embraced faithfulness to Jesus outside of the spotlight, in places and spaces in Australia that weren’t well known or easily seen. This was the forging place for Christine’s deep love for Jesus and consistent faithfulness to His call – all things she’s admired for today on a larger stage.
In the remainder of Christine’s time with Nicky and Pippa, she shares what she senses has shifted for the Church in this season, the need for a resurgence of prayer in the body of Christ and what kept her obedient in a recent season when she wanted to throw in the towel. All throughout what Christine shares there is such contagious passion and vulnerability. The interview ends with Nicky asking Christine how she manages to hold all her initiatives, relationships and priorities in balance. Her response – “My strength does not come from me. It doesn’t come from a strategic plan, or a balanced life … it comes from the Spirit of God.” A simple response from someone who is as devoted to God off the stage as she is on it.
We hope this conversation between Nicky, Pippa and Christine serves to encourage and inspire you.
