Week of Prayer for Unity

We’d love to invite you to join us in praying for the unity of Christians around the world.

Here at Alpha, we see unity as key to our vision for the evangelisation of the nations, the revitalisation of the Church and the transformation of society. Why? Well, Jesus prayed that the Church would be united, so that the world would believe in Him (John 17:20-23). And we know from Psalm 133 that where there is unity, it pleases God and he commands a blessing.

Unity and Mission go together! In The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis says:

“The immense numbers of people who have not received the Gospel of Jesus Christ cannot leave us indifferent. Consequently, commitment to a unity which helps them to accept Jesus Christ can no longer be a matter of mere diplomacy or forced compliance, but rather an indispensable path to evangelisation.
How many important things unite us! If we really believe in the abundantly free working of the Holy Spirit, we can learn so much from one another!”

January 18th – 25th is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, when Christians are encouraged to come together to pray for the unity of all Christians, as well as to build relationships with one another and to learn from one another.

How can you get involved?

  • Reflecting on Jesus’s prayer for unity (John 17: 20-23), pray for unity among Christians globally
  • Why not get together with other churches in your area to pray together and to pray for each other.
